Literacy Night 2016 sponsored by Third Grade

Our Driving Question:

How can we, as scholars, promote the power of reading in our community?

The Third grade decided the best way to promote the power of reading in our community was to sponsor Witt's first Literacy Night in three years, that would also compliment our annual Scholastic Book Fair. The students brainstormed ideas and formed groups based on interest. Each group developed a plan for an activity/station which was vetted to a panel of parents, who had previously organized literacy night. The panel gave feedback and groups began setting up activities and working out details. The third graders presented final stations/activities to panel a second time.

Literacy Night included: the book fair, a reading lounge, poetry cafe, word puzzles, book bingo, make a book, book walk, making pirate hats and names, pirate photo booth, guide map and activity stamps, book give away, winter clothing drive and a food truck for substance. :)

The evening was a huge success!
